Citizens Bank Financial Center is a skyscraper in downtown Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. It was designed by D.H. Burnham and completed in 1911. It is one of Wilkes-Barre's famous buildings and also one of its first high rises. The building stands at 170 ft and has 13 floors, the top one added in 1926. It was initially the headquarters for the Miner's National Bank and has gone through a number of owners, such as United Penn Bank & Mellon Bank. In 1912, an illuminated sign was placed atop the building by the Miner's National Bank. The building's subsequent owners have allowed the sign to remain throughout its existence and to this day, the green "Citizens Bank" sign, which reaches its pinnacle at more than 200 ft above street level is an important & defining staple in the Wilkes-Barre skyline. The building features an inward curveture on both side, giving it somewhat of an "H" shape, although the building once had more of a "U" shape before an addition was made to it in 1926. Atop the second floor, where the inward curveture begins, a sculpture of a nesting eagle and a flag pole can be seen from the Franklin St side of the building. The top of the building is decorated with lion heads and a number of interesting designs can be seen climbing the facade. In 2013, Citizens Bank moved from the building after more than a decade. The building now houses rented offices and apartments, but the Citizens Bank sign remains on top, as it is considered somewhat of a landmark by city residents.
